Dry eye syndrome is a condition where a chronic insufficiency of lubrication and moisture occurs on the surface of the eyes. Dry eye syndrome is a commonly occurring condition.
The symptoms of dry eye syndrome include:
- Burning Sensation
- Itchy eyes
- Eye sore
- Dryness sensation
- Red eyes
- Blurry vision
- Foreign body sensation
- Watery eyes
Dry eye syndrome is caused to the lack of an adequate and consistent tear film layer on the on the surface of the eyes. The tear film layer consists of three components and an imbalance in those components could cause tear instability and dry eyes. The components are aqueous (water), mucin (mucous-like) and lipid (oil).
Your optometrist is able to detect dry eye syndrome during a routine eye test.
Following the eye test, your optometrist will educate you about the condition and advise you on the best options available to you.
